It is likely that the majority of players of Animal Crossing: New Horizons finished the month of June by putting a large number of unused Heart Crystals and a variety of other event-related items that are only relevant during specific times of the year into storage. This highlights an area in which ACNH does not utilize its content to its full potential. Heart Crystals can be obtained by residents of the island through the ACNH event known as Wedding Season, which takes place once a year in June. But Wedding Season isn't the only annual event in the game that has its own currency, and while event items may seem like a reasonable concept in theory, the fact that it's so simple to amass them without any particular goal raises questions about how effectively they are implemented.
The usefulness of Heart Crystals has already been severely restricted. The alpaca couple Reese and Cyrus from Animal Crossing offer them to the player as rewards in New Horizons in exchange for the player's assistance in planning and taking photos for their anniversary. In return, the player has the opportunity to trade them with the couple for various items with a wedding or romantic theme, such as reception tables, wedding cakes, bouquets, and pastel chapel decorations. The items have adorable designs, but the aesthetic preferences that led to them being created limit their applicability as decorations. Even for completionists, it is not difficult to earn more than ten Heart Crystals in a single day. Additionally, Cyrus gives away some of the more expensive items for free and only requires Heart Crystals for additional content.
However, outside of the month of June, Heart Crystals cannot be exchanged for anything, and as a result, they serve no purpose other than to take up space in a player's inventory or storage areas. Additionally, they are not the only event item in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that are open to criticism in this regard. Candy plays a role in ACNH's Halloween event but is otherwise a regular food item. Throughout the month of October, Nook's Cranny sells candy that plays a role in the event, and it is easy for island residents to buy more candy throughout the month than they will need on Halloween itself. Players have the ability to collect Easter eggs for an entire week leading up to Bunny Day, but they can only trade them into Zipper on that day itself. The rewards that can be obtained from trading Easter eggs into Zipper include Do-It-Yourself recipes, which are pointless to collect more than once unless they are used for trading or gifting.
Even though Wedding Season has three different DIYs associated with it, Heart Crystals are not used in any of the recipes in any way, shape, or form. In the meantime, candy from Halloween, eggs from Bunny Day, ornaments from Festive Season, and feathers from Festivale are all technically usable as crafting ingredients outside of the events that they are associated with. However, a few heartfelt do-it-yourself projects aren't going to do much to justify keeping Heart Crystals in your collection. Even though an inventive player can find a way to incorporate anything in ACNH into a one-of-a-kind island design or room layout, the do-it-yourself projects that call for event items typically have a distinctively festive aesthetic to them. The majority of people who live on the island probably won't feel the need to make Christmas trees or Easter egg arches during the off-season for the respective ingredients. Do-it-yourself projects that make less obvious use of event items, or even ones that combine a few different kinds, could potentially increase both the value of the items and the sense of satisfaction that comes from collecting them.
Unfortunately, ACNH does not excel at being efficient with its gameplay components or providing a deeper variety of content that can outlive its novelty. Many players believe that this is most evident in the game's seasonal events, and that the game's exclusive items for those events are, as a result, ultimately less exciting and substantial than they could be. However, for the time being, players of ACNH bells continue to make their own fun with what the game provides, despite the fact that the rewards for participating in the game's yearly grind are becoming progressively less valuable.
Many players of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, particularly those who have owned the game since it was first released more than two years ago, have already restarted the game and, as a result, their island, or are currently considering doing so. When starting over, there are a lot of things to think about, the most important of which is the theme the player intends to use. The players' preferred starter island, its population, and even the island's name can be influenced by the island's overarching theme. Although players are free to redecorate their islands to give them a new look at any time, their islands' names cannot be changed unless they start the game over completely.
There are many players who are familiar with and use the typical ACNH Items cores for their themes (for example, the cottage-core, the fairy-core, and so on), but because there are so many different items, players have plenty of options to make their island something special and unique. Players have plenty of room on their island to experiment with a variety of concepts, and once the terraforming achievement in ACNH is completed, even more opportunities open up to them. The Happy Home Paradise expansion grants players the ability to eventually personalize the homes of their villagers, which is not only fun but also helpful when theming their island.
